The VTG & Treynor Parks & Trails Board come together to collaborate in an effort to add valuable amenities to The T!!
The VTG and the TPTB, both separate entities, have joined in collaborative efforts to locate all their amenities at one common gathering place in Treynor... The T! In the Spring of 2022, the VTG and the TPTB redesigned The T's family gathering area to include the valued amenities of the TPTB. Now, along with the Lakin Foundation Family Pavilion, The T will also be the new home of:
• Tristan's Memorial Trailhead Tristan's Trail
• The community Splash Pad Treynor Splash Pad
• Dexter's Dreamland Playground Dexter's Dream
• Family Game areas
Grading and initial construction for these amenities will begin in the fall of 2023 and facilities are slated to be completed in the Spring of 2024! The TPTB will enter a long-term lease to ensure the long life of these attractions so they can all be placed in one common area in town.
With the addition of these amenities added to the current little league fields, The T is shaping up to be a multi-generational, multi-activity attraction for rural Southwest Iowa!
Stay tuned for updates and more exciting news as things develop.
The development of The T, is a transformational community project that has been a labor of love for the VTG board members and a test of patience for all those waiting to see the plan come together. Since the purchase of 63 acres North of HWY 92 in 2012, the VTG has strategically been putting the pieces together for what they believe will become "the family gathering place" for multi-generational activities in rural Pottawattamie County! The fall of 2023 and the winter of 2024 will mark some of the most visible changes to the complex to date. Here is what is coming your way.
The VTG board has completed grading prep for the new Lakin Foundation Family Pavillion. This 4,400 square foot structure will boast 2,800 square feet of interior space that will house a concession stand, family gathering room, leased space for a seasonal shop, mechanical room for the community splash pad, and restrooms to include men's, women's and a restroom with an adult changing table. Special thank you to Roger Webster of Wick Buildings for assisting with the design.
The building will be delivered the first part of August with construction to begin immediately upon delivery. The exterior shell will be completed in four to six weeks from the delivery date. Once the exterior shell is completed, utilities will be roughed in and concrete will be poured. Interior construction will ensue throughout the winter months with the goal of a grand opening in the Spring of 2024!
With the completion of the Pavillion, this will close out Phase 2 of the VTG project, of which was funded initially by a 34% grant from the Iowa West Foundation. Special thank you to the Iowa West Foundation, the TS Banking Group - Mick and Judy Guttau Family, The Lakin Foundation, and multiple other donors that allowed this phase to be financed and on track for completion!
Lots happening at The T! Special shout out to those who volunteered to construct the new batting cage for the little league field. One more amenity to help beautify our ballpark. A special thank you to the Community Foundation of Western Iowa for a $5,000 grant to get this project jump-started. Thank you to Andrew Chambers & Jamison Chambers for spearheading the project. Special shout out to Katelman Steel Fabrication, their ownership and employees for donating and constructing the steel frame for the project. Finally, thank you to Jane Goos for donating the protective L Screen in memory of Emmett Goos. This is another high-quality asset added to The T that will help develop our young athlete's baseball and softball skills!
The Vision Treynor Group is excited to announce that they are the 2023 recipient of a Charles E. Lakin Foundation grant! The grant is being awarded for the construction of the family pavilion that will serve as the gathering place of The T – the family recreation complex located in Treynor. With construction planned to begin in late summer/early fall of 2023, the pavilion will proudly be referred to as “The Lakin Foundation Family Pavilion”. The Vision Treynor Group is honored and humbled by the generosity and impact that the Lakin Family is providing to our community and rural Pottawattamie County.
The completion of the pavilion will allow the VTG to come one step closer to finalizing phase two of their complex. This phase includes completed construction of the first little league field, multi-purpose field, the family pavilion, and the facilities infrastructure. With the Lakin Family donation, this brings the total investment into The T of over $1.7 million dollars in the last 10 years!
The Vision Treynor Group would like to extend a special Thank You to The Charles E. Lakin Family and their Board of Directors along with all other investors into the family recreation complex. Without this level of generosity and collaboration, this regional project would not have happened.
The VTG is also excited to announce that they and the Treynor Park and Trails board have been collaborating to align their goals in an effort to bring additional amenities to The T! Over the last 12 months, the two entities have worked together with local engineers to redesign the family recreation area of the complex so that it can accommodate The Lakin Foundation Family Pavilion, Tristan’s Trailhead, the splash pad, Dexter’s Dream Playground, sports courts, and family game areas. The groups are working hard to finalize grading plans with a targeted construction date of 2023 for the pavilion, trailhead, and splash pad.

Employees at TS Bank have a reason to celebrate after the business was named a top-performing bank in the state among “C” Corporation banks for the seventh straight year. And this time around, they decided the best way to commemorate the honor was to give back to the Treynor community.
To celebrate its achievement, TS Bank has donated $100,000 to the Vision Treynor Group of Treynor for the community’s new sports complex. The donation will assist in the completion of phase two of construction. In addition, TS Bank is donating an extra $5,000 towards a splash pad that will be located in the Treynor East Park. “We felt giving back to the community was a great way to share the award,” said Kelsey Stupfell, client experience officer at TS Bank.
According to a press release, since 2009, TS Bank has ranked among the top 20 high-performing banks in the state and the nation.
“While we were excited to receive this award the first year, I think that the real mark of success comes from consecutive high rankings,” Joshua Guttau, TS Banking Group CEO, said in the release. “I feel this is a result of TS Bank continually working to push the status quo and engaging the community in that as well.”
Stupfell said the $100,000 will further develop phase two of the sports complex: to build an access road and one or two grassy athletic fields. The first $50,000 will be an outright donation while the second portion of the $50,000 will be contributed as a matching gift challenge.
"We are completely thrilled by this gift and TS Bank’s generosity. We are beyond appreciative. We firmly believe that this will spur greater interest and a renewed spirit toward giving to the project in order to fully develop the property,” said Travis Castle, Vision Treynor Group President, in a press release.
TS Bank opened a new branch in Atlantic in December of 2015. A new Council Bluffs branch will open this fall.
Today, Vision Treynor Group announced it has purchased land for the development of the future Treynor Family Recreation Complex.
According to Travis Castle, president of Vision Treynor Group, the $600,000 purchase was made with funds from two sources. The majority of the land acquisition was paid for with TS Bank’s initial $500,000 gift in support of the Family Recreation Complex. The remaining funds were provided to Vision Treynor Group on a short term basis via the TS Bank Endowment Fund.

The Vision Treynor Group is excited to announce HGM Associates as its architectural/engineering firm for the proposed Family Aquatic Center/Sports Complex Facility. Potential site evaluation, project scope management, specific needs assessment, conceptual designs as well as master plan development are the main objectives for HGM Associates in the coming months.
Vision Treynor Group began meeting formally in February of 2010, to serve as a self-sustaining organization that facilitates public and private projects which benefit the economic and social climate of Treynor and its surrounding area. A feasibility needs survey was conducted in the Treynor area. The response was overwhelmingly supportive for a Youth Sports Complex with walking trail, a Community Fitness Center, and a Family Aquatic Center.
Vision Treynor Group officers include: Travis Castle, President, Glen Fleming, Vice President/Secretary, Norm Collins, Treasurer. The board members are Shelly Bailey, Kevin Elwood, Doug Klahn, Scott Reelfs, and Doug Wehring.
In June of 2010, TS Bank presented the group with a donation of $500,000 to kick-start the project. This stimulated forward progress and much excitement within the community. As this project moves forward, an official Capitol Campaign will be presented to the area businesses and residents. However, if you would like to consider a 2010 tax deductible gift to the Vision Treynor Group (VTG), current donations can be made through the TSB Community Foundation (Tax ID No. 42-1486651) with reference to VTG. Keep in mind that many employers will match your donations to non-profit organizations such as the VTG. The VTG is currently applying for registration as a 501c(3) organization.
The Vision Treynor Group would like to take this time to thank the various community members who have assisted with the efforts thus far and look forward to others jumping on board in the coming months.
